Winery Story
Hervé family can be traced back to 1607 when Jean-Marie Hervé, a sailor serving the King of France to settle Saillans. The oldest bottles labeled Chateau Moulin Haut-Laroque date from the vintage 1890, and the Hervé family still owns a few bottles.
The existing winemaker, Jean-Noël &Dominique Hervé, have been in charge of the estate since 1977 and have made Chateau Moulin Haut-Laroque famous around the world. Jean-Noël Hervé has a strong passion for his terroir, and prefers his old Cabernet Francs blending with the best of his Merlot. The winery is rated as one of the best Fronsac producers by Robert Parker, and has been mentioned in the Drops of God Japanese manga. Since 2012, Thomas Hervé has joined the team and now plans to take over the family business fully.
The estate is composed of a bit more than 42 acres (16 ha), which are located on both the hillsides of the extraordinary terroir of Saillans and on the top of the highest plateaus of Fronsac, with one-third of the vines aged over 50 years old.
The wines are made of four grapes varietieswhich lead to the following blend: 65 % Merlot, 20 % Cabernet Franc, 10 %Cabernet Sauvignon and, 5 % of +100 year-old-Malbec.
