Region: Fronsac, France Grape Varieties:  65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Malbec Alcohol: 13% Vinification: Barrels (33% new) for 15-18 months Tasting Notes: 90+ Robert Parker - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate " Tipping the scales at 15% natural alcohol, its notes of crushed rock, blueberry and raspberry fruit as well as darker currants and forest floor are followed by a deep, medium to full-bodied, rich wine with relatively sweet tannin but lots of extract and a long finish. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. An impressive wine once again from proprietors Jean-Noel and Dominique Herve, this Fronsac is a blend of two-thirds Merlot and the rest mostly Cabernet Franc as well as tiny quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec." Rating: - Wine Spectator 91 pts.  - Robert Parker 90+- pts.

Winery Story

Hervé family can be traced back to 1607 when Jean-Marie Hervé, a sailor serving the King of France to settle Saillans.  The oldest bottles labeled Chateau Moulin Haut-Laroque date from the vintage 1890, and the Hervé family still owns a few bottles.

The existing winemaker, Jean-Noël &Dominique Hervé, have been in charge of the estate since 1977 and have made Chateau Moulin Haut-Laroque famous around the world. Jean-Noël Hervé has a strong passion for his terroir, and prefers his old Cabernet Francs blending with the best of his Merlot. The winery is rated as one of the best Fronsac producers by Robert Parker, and has been mentioned in the Drops of God Japanese manga. Since 2012, Thomas Hervé has joined the team and now plans to take over the family business fully.

The estate is composed of a bit more than 42 acres (16 ha), which are located on both the hillsides of the extraordinary terroir of Saillans and on the top of the highest plateaus of Fronsac, with one-third of the vines aged over 50 years old.

The wines are made of four grapes varietieswhich lead to the following blend: 65 % Merlot, 20 % Cabernet Franc, 10 %Cabernet Sauvignon and, 5 % of +100 year-old-Malbec.

Château Moulin Haut Laroque has been involved in the Environmental Management System (SME) of the Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux (CIVB).   That means they make all the necessary efforts to assess & control environmental and human impacts.
